While I am a Philadelphia-based wedding photographer, many of you may know that I am no stranger to NYC. New York City is one of my favorite places on this earth, next to my own cozy home of course. There is so much to do in this beautiful city and essentially one word to describe New York City is iconic. I’ve had the opportunity of shooting many beautiful love stories in New York City. Some of them are Allie + Michael and Elaine + Tony. However, today’s love story is centered around Danielle and Will and their Central Park Engagement.
For Danielle and Will, it was important that their NYC engagement photos reflected an elegant, classic, and romantic look. Since their wedding is in December, they wanted to be able to incorporate a ton of greenery and flowers in their engagement photos. It’s because of this that Central Park seemed to be the perfect fit for their NYC engagement. Boy, were we right.
There is something so beautiful about Central Park and of course reminds me of Sex and the City. We first started with a bit more of a formal look as we embraced the Bethesda Terrace. This iconic landmark is placed in the heart of Central Park. It’s a popular destination location and is accompanied by the Bethesda Fountain, another iconic spot. Naturally, it was one of our first stops for Danielle and Will’s Central Park engagement.
Then, Danielle and Will changed into more casual wear to switch up their look. Typically I will always recommend a formal and casual outfit to bring during engagement sessions. If we have time of course! Wandering through Central Park was a real gem, however, we wanted to add a bit more diversity to their photos. Off we went to explore some of the beautiful townhomes and neighborhoods surrounding Central Park. It was a beautiful way to create a more lived-in vibe for their engagement photos and an amazing way to end their engagement photo celebration.
When it comes to taking NYC engagement photos, especially in Central Park, you will have to keep in mind the one thing that NYC does not lack. That thing being people. There are tons of people everywhere, so we need to keep that in mind when having a Central Park engagement. That’s why oftentimes I will let my couples know of the best time/places to go in Central Park to try and avoid heavy crowds of people that can distract from your NYC engagement photos. Oftentimes, sunrise or early morning will be the best options based on my experience. You will have fewer distractions and more of an opportunity to avoid heavy crowds.
