For those of you who don’t keep up on my Instagram (@morgantaylorartistry), you may have missed that recently my travel excursions took me to London, England. This beautiful country has always been a favorite of mine, so heading back there for this trip was such an amazing time. While I was in London, I was able to take these gorgeous West London engagement photos in Notting Hill and it was next-level beautiful.
To many of us here in the US, Notting Hill is that amazing Julia Roberts & Hugh Grant rom-com movie. However, it actually is a real place in West London, England. This West London neighborhood is filled with blooming trees, shrubbery, and florals. Which made this the perfect backdrop setting for Elena and Oliver’s engagement session. For these West London engagement photos, we wanted to keep things very airy, romantic, and candid. Luckily, walking throughout Notting Hill made this task a breeze.
Location and mindset are major factors when it comes to how your engagement photos turn out. However, what you choose to wear to your engagement session will play one of the largest influencing factors of all! Below are just a few tips on what I, as a Philadelphia Wedding Photographer, would recommend wearing to your engagement session.
It’s not every day that you are getting engaged, so use this special occasion to your advantage! When it comes to what to wear to your engagement photos, I always recommend going all out. What that means is dressing to the nines. You want to look back on these photos and remember how special of a time this was, not just any ordinary day. By taking the time to dress up, get glam and really celebrate this occasion, it will allow you to fully enjoy this experience. So when in doubt, dress it out!
Hate to break it to you, but neutrals will absolutely be your best friend when it comes to your engagement photos. For all of you bright neon/color lovers out there, apologies in advance. However, neutrals will guarantee that you will never cause a distraction in your engagement photos. The last thing you want is to look back on your engagement photos only to be distracted by your bright neon pink shirt. When looking back at your engagement photos, you want to be able to focus on you and your partner, not how distracting your clothing is. So if you’re wondering what is the best color palette to choose from, neutrals will be your best bet. Neutrals are safe and universal and eliminates the stress and worry of you having the dreaded “green screen” effect.
Another one for all of you pattern and logo lovers out there. When it comes to your engagement photos, this unfortunately is a no-go too. Now, let me preface this by saying you can wear whatever you want to your engagement session. However, if you’re wanting the top-quality and best results, I would stray away from wearing busy patterns and logos to your session. It can be a major distraction and may not mesh well with the rest of your backdrop, so keeping things a bit more simple and subdued is key!
Lastly, you’re going to need to keep in mind what exactly you’re using your engagement photos for. If you’re planning on using your photos for your save the dates, for example, this will dramatically influence what you wear and how we shoot. Keep in mind what type of color palette and tones you’re planning on using for your save the dates/wedding website. This too, will play a role in what you choose to wear to your engagement session.
