Homebase for Sarah and Teddy is actually along the West Coast in the sunny city of Los Angeles. While planning their dreamy 2025 Paris wedding they wanted me to capture a piece of New York’s magic during a quick trip to the city. Sarah and Teddy wanted to celebrate their engagement in a city where love flourishes and gives them the opportunity to get the romantic-editorial feel that they were looking for.

Being all the way across the country, planning for a destination engagement session may seem like a daunting task. However, for Sarah and Teddy, the idea of planning an engagement session in a completely different city didn’t seem to bad when you have a photographer who is well versed in the area. For those of you newly engaged brides wanting to plan a destination engagement session, here are some of my top tips that help ensure a smooth and seamless experience.

The art of crafting your perfect destination engagement session begins with timeline planning. Ideally I recommend securing your photographer at least 3-4 months in advance, particularly if you’re eyeing peak season dates (Spring-Fall). Photographers tend to book out weeks in advance so to avoid any chance of missing an opportunity to work with your preferred photographer, it’s best ot plan as far ahead in advance as possible.

Key Timeline Details:

• Schedule your session 3-4 months ahead
• Allow time to explore multiple different locations (if you choose)
• Book hair and makeup trials in advance
• Add buffer time in case of wardrobe changes

Travel Logistics

Orchestrating a destination engagement session requires detailed preparation beyond just booking your photographer. Considering your travel arrangements should also be a big priority when planning out a destination engagement. Ideally you want to arrive to your destination at least 24 hours prior to your session. This will allow you to settle in, refresh, and immerse yourself in the new and exciting location.

• Touch down in your destination a minimum of 24 hours pre-session
• Research indoor alternatives in case of inclement weather
• Keep in mind different seasons offer different results

We ventured to some of Central Park’s iconic landmarks such as the Bethesda Terrace & Fountain. The fountain provided a stunning backdrop as Sarah and Teddy shared laughs and tender embraces.
