There’s something undeniably magical about Old City Philadelphia in the Fall. The historic architecture surrounds you and instantly takes your breath away. It’s pure magic. As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I had the privilege of capturing Caroline and Matt’s Old City Philadelphia Fall engagement session. Where every cobblestone street and colonial facade provided the perfect backdrop for their love story. The crisp Autumn air and golden hour light created an undeniably enchanting atmosphere as we explored some of Philly’s most iconic landmarks.

The Merchant Exchange Building

The Merchant Exchange Building offers stunning Greek Revival architecture which was the first stop of Caroline and Matt’s engagement session. This Philadelphia landmark, designed by Benjamin Henry Latrobe in 1832, offered an exquisite setting that perfectly matched C+M’s wants for a classic and timeless engagement session. The building’s commanding marble columns and symmetrical design created a sense of grandeur that gave off a very refined look that I loved!

What makes the Merchant Exchange Building particularly spectacular for engagement photos (and why it’s a fan fave) is its versatility. Towards the north side is where you will find warm afternoon light, creating the most captivating golden glow. With pristine white marbling, light beautifully reflects which creates a soft-focus look that nobody can deny is breathtaking. The detailed architectural elements such as the ornate cornices and the iconic pediments provide the perfect backdrops for engagement sessions and weddings.

Soft Focus Moments at The Philadelphia Museum of Art

After exploring the charm of Old City, we made our way to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The museum’s grand steps, better known as the famous “Rocky Steps”, offered elevated views of the city skyline. While the manicured gardens and reflecting pool in the distance gave us the perfect setting for romantic portraits of the newly engaged couple. Something about Downtown City sessions feels so Carrie Bradshaw to me and I seriously am in love!
